Charm City: Historical Settings that Transport the Reader – Ana Brazil, Edie Cay, and C.V. Lee

December 20, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm PST

Every city has its own charm—Portland knows this better than anyone. No one really knows what it’s like to live there but the locals. But writers try all the time. How do we get it right? How do we get it wrong? It’s not just the landmarks that ground readers, it’s the feel that transports us. We’ll explore memorable places, books that transport us there, and how that happens. Authors Ana Brazil, Edie Cay, and C.V. Lee discuss Gilded Age New Orleans with Fanny Newcomb and the Irish Channel Ripper, Regency England with A Lady’s Revenge, and Medieval Jersey Island with as-yet-unpublished Roses and Rebels; as well as give reading recommendations on books that transcend space and time.
